In 2026 it formed TANAKA MEP Refinery with Penang’s MEP Enviro Technology to build a RM70 million precious-metal refinery in Batu Kawan; its bonding-wire maker has operated in Penang since 1994.

TANAKA MEP breaks ground on RM70m Batu Kawan refinery

A Japan–Penang joint venture has started work on a RM70 million gold refinery on about 3 acres in Batu Kawan Industrial Park, due to open in early 2029.
